Exteel world

Overview

The lore of Exteel centers on the planet Natha and the four warring colonies that settled there after fleeing the Galactic Federation. The story describes a tragic descent from unity against a common enemy to civil war between former allies.

Galactic conflict

Historical Background

The Galactic Federation Conflict

Less than thirty years ago, the colonists were united against a common foe — the Galactic Federation. They fought to gain independence but failed, and were forced to settle on the planet Natha, specifically the Taryn continent.

Settlement and Colonization

The colonists came from different planets in the solar system:

  • Mars — Settled what became Marston
  • Jupiter — Settled what became Palamo
  • Saturn — Settled what became Aiers

They shaped the wild Taryn continent to make a new life, forming nations and governments as varied as the planets they arrived from.

War

The Current War

The peace was shattered when:

  1. A Marston outpost was destroyed
  2. Marston accused Palamo of an act of war
  3. Palamo denied any involvement
  4. Despite denials, General Leopoldo of Marston drove his mercenaries forward, laying waste to enemies

Key point: The war is waged by mercenaries wrapped in powerful Mechanaughts. The colonists were not allowed armies when they came to Natha, so they now use hired soldiers (the players) to fight for power and survival.

The Four Houses

Marston

Marston

Origin: Refugees from Mars · Leader: General Maximilian Leopoldo

Fiercely determined people. Started the Eight Years' War long ago. Last bastion of independence to be defeated by the Galactic Federation. Life on Natha has been hard: forced to settle on arid land, bombarded by meteor showers, forced underground into an industrialized lifestyle. General Leopoldo is a brilliant strategist, but many question his scruples. Accuses Palamo of destroying a Marston outpost; driving mercenaries forward despite denials.

Palamo

Palamo

Origin: Refugees from Jupiter · Leader: Michael Chavez

In the beginning, life was almost idyllic. Had by far the most fertile soil on the Taryn continent. Formed twelve communities, built farms and homes. Their support of West Palamo after its secession from Marston created a rift. Michael Chavez categorically denied General Leopoldo's accusations. Struggling to maintain composure after his son's death during Marston's initial retaliatory strike.

West Palamo

West Palamo

Origin: Originally part of Marston (southern Taryn) · Leader: Isabella Boone

The newest nation on Natha. Formed from separatists within Marston territory. Received aid from Palamo to declare independence. Marston refused to recognize them and deported anyone sympathetic. Isabella Boone is independent and tough, known for bold decisions. Seems almost inevitable that West Palamo will enter the fray.

Aiers

Aiers

Origin: Refugees from Saturn · Leader: President Elmer Jones

Always held itself apart from other colonies. Small but highly advanced society. Involvement in current conflict has been minimal so far. Scientific prowess will inevitably draw them in — either as a willing ally or as a rich target. President Elmer Jones is a "once in a generation mind," aloof and clinical.

Mechanaughts

Thematic Elements

"Once we were united against a common foe. Now we are bathed in the blood of our own families."

Colonists were not allowed armies when they came to Natha. War is waged by mercenaries (the players) in Mechanaughts. The lore ends with a question: "Can there be a victor in a war such as this?"
